Preparation for The Move
The team at Abroad Relocation are skilled professionals, and we consider preparation crucial to every job we do. We approach every task with the same high level of care, whether it is a small package or big shipment. We will discuss the process with you the customer during the pre-move survey and throughout the moving process. Part of this process is recommending the best shipment option for our customers. Here are the options available:
Air shipment consignment. For small shipments and essential personal effects, we can handle it via airfreight door to door. The benefit of airfreight is immediate delivery, but the cost can be high.
Excess Baggage. If door-to-door air shipment is too costly, you can go with our cost-effective excess baggage option. You simply pack the items yourself and drop off to our airport warehouse. We will arrange shipping by airline, and you just have to collect the baggage at your destination airport.
LCL Shipment. When airfreight is too costly, you can choosea sea freight LCL (Less than a Container Load) shipment, which is loaded into a 20-foot container that ships on a weekly sailing schedule to all destinations. This option is cost-effective when you can fill up to 30% of a container. This option provides a reasonable door to door transit time in sea freight mode compared to sharing or group age shipping. For more remote destinations like Africa, this is how most items are shipped since there is no option to share the container.
Console Shipment. Console or group age shipping options are best suited to customers who are keen to keep costs low. Your goods go into a shared container and once the container is full it is shipped. Console shipping is an excellent option for reducing cost as long as you don’t need your goods in a hurry.
Full containers. 20ft, 40ft, 40HQ and 45FT. If you have a lot of goods to ship Full container shipments are the most cost-effective option. The benefit of a full container is having a fixed cost for ocean freight, origin and destination port charges. As a guide, a 20-foot container should be large enough for the contents of a three bedroom house. A 40-foot container is a better option for a larger 4-5 bedroom house or if you want to ship and car plus belongings.
Courier shipments. For smaller items, shipping boxes can be couriered and delivered to your door with our courier partners. There can sometimes be delays if customs at destination country need to apply duties or taxes.
